Monday-Students will do a worksheet covering pp. 490-497. Students also take notes on early battles of the Civil War.
Tuesday-We will discuss worksheet as a group. We will also watch a film about Abraham Lincoln.
Wednesday-We will continue discussing the battles of the war. We will focus on battles in the east and the Emancipation Proclamation.
Thursday-We will examine section 4 The Hardships of War. Students will do questions 1-5 on p. 504.
Friday-We will talk about the final battles of the war focusing on Vicksburg and Gettysburg.
Monday-We will examine the start of the Republican Party and the importance of the Lincoln-Douglass debates.pp. 473-477. Students will be given time to finish p. 476 1-5.
Tuesday-We will discuss section 5 pp. 478-481. This will conclude Chapter 16. We will review the chapter in preparation for a test.
Wednesday-We will finish the review of chapter 16. We will introduce Chapter 17 by reading the timeline and and discussing the pictures pp. 484-485.
Thursday-Test will be given on Chapter 16. After testing we will discuss section one pp. 486-489.
Friday-We will examine the early fighting of the Civil War. Students will do questions p. 494 1-5.
Monday-We will discuss Slavery in the Territories-section one Chapter 16. We will focus on the Missouri Compromise and the formation of the Free Soil Party. Students will do questions 1-5 on p. 462.
Tuesday-We will examine the Compromise of 1850 and how it led to further division between North and South. We will also discuss the importance of Under Tom’s Cabin.
Wednesday-We will watch a film about Frederick Douglass and the students will take notes for a grade. Students will do a ditto sheet of questions covering pp. 468-475.
Thursday-We will discuss the Dred Scott Case, the Kansas-Nebraska Act and violence in the Senate. pp. 468-472.
Friday-We will examine the emergence of the Republican Party and Lincoln as a national leader. pp 473-477.
Monday-We will discuss American Art and Literature of the time period 1800-1850. pp. 448-451. Students will finish in class p. 451 1-2.
Tuesday-TCAP testing starts. The rest of the day will be adjusted to fit TCAP. We will read and discuss pp. 458-462. This section focuses on Slavery in the Territories.
Wednesday-We will investigate the Compromise of 185o. We will examine the needs for the Compromise and it’s results. Students will begin work on questions 1-5 on page 466.
Thursday-We will discuss pp. 468-472 with special emphasis on the Dred Scott Decision.
Friday-We will watch a video about Frederick Douglass. Students will take notes. We will discuss the video and students will turn in the notes and a written exercise. TCAP testing will finish on Friday.
Monday-We will discuss section one of Chapter 15. We will examine the Reform Spitit that swept America during the early 1800’s.
Tuesday-The students will be tested on Chapter 14 the first part of class. The reminder of class students will work on a ditto sheet covering pp439-445. Ditto sheet will be due start of class Wednesday.
Thursday-We will cover ditto sheet in class. In the time left students will work in pairs covering pp. 448-451. They will list major writers and artists of this period and the themes they dealt with.
Friday-We will cover authors and artists in class. We will review the entire chapter.
Monday-We will discuss Industry in the North. pp. 408-411. Students will finish and turn in ditto sheet of questions.
Tuesday-We will examine Life in the North. We will discuss the importance of industry and the major role played by immigrants in Northern life.
Wednesday-We will examine how and why the cotton kingdom developed in the South and how this affected the growth of slavery. pp. 418-421. Students will work on a ditto sheeet of questions and finish for homework if needed.
Thursday-We will discuss Slavery-Life without freedom. We will then review the entire Chapter-14 in preparation for a test on Friday.
Friday-We will test on Chapter 14. We will then read the timeline pp. 432-433. Students will read pp. 434-437 and do words and terms top of page 434.
Monday-We will discuss the Mexican War. pp. 394-397. We will talk about the major battles and people of the war. We will also take a look at how the war had lasting effects on the U.S. Students will have time to work in class on p. 397 1-6.
Tuesday-We will examine the California Gold Rush and how it greatly affected the cultural makeup of California. pp. 398-401. We will review Chapter 13 in preparation for a test.
Wednesday-We will test on Chapter 13 and we will do a creative writing exercise related to the chapter.
Thursday-Students will turn in and share with the class the creative writing exercises. We will read the timeline and discuss the pictures on p. 406. We will also read aloud and discuss pp. 407-411.
Friday-We will examine life in the North. pp. 413-415. Students will do a ditto sheet of questions related to these pages in the textbook.
Monday-We will discuss the settling of the Oregon Territory. pp. 380-384. Students will do questions 1-5 on p. 384.
Tuesday-We will read and examine tne events leading to Americans settling Texas. pp. 385-389. Students will complete a ditto sheet of questions on the section.
Wednesday-Students will read and working in pairs take notes on pp.391-393. We will come together and share information as a class.
Thursday-We will discuss the events leading to the Mexican War and the actual fighting of the war. pp. 394-397. Students will do p. 397 1-5.
Friday-We will examine the 1848 gold rush to California and the impact it had on the settlement of America. We will also review the Chapter.
Monday-We will read and discuss pp. 348-351. Students will finish newspaper writing exercise in class. Students should finish ditto sheet p. 360 for homework.
Tuesday-We will discuss Jackson in the White House. pp. 365-368. We will cover worksheet in class.
Wednesday-We will examine the crisis over the tariff and the Trail of Tears. We will also take a look at the election of 1840. We will do an overview of the chapter in preparation for a test Thursday.
Thursday-We will test on Chapter 12. Students will read pp. 380-384 and start working on questions p. 384 1-6.
Friday-We will review the events that led to the settling of the Oregon Territory. pp. 380-385.
Monday-We will finish our discussion of Chapter 11. Students will finish and turn in p. 351 1-5. Students will write a Chapter summary using a word list provided by the teacher.
Tuesday-We will introduce Chapter 12 by reviewing the timeline and pictures on pp, 358-359. Students will create a worksheet covering pp. 360-365.
Wednesday-We will go over the worksheet as a class. We will read and discuss pp. 365-368 Jackson in the White House.
Thursday-We will discuss section 3 pp. 371-374. Students will do a worksheet covering these pages. We will review the Chapter.
Friday-We will test on Chapter 12. Students will read 380-384 in preparation to start new chapter on Monday.
